Turkey ratifies combined transport agreement with Ukraine

Last week, the Turkish Parliament ratified an agreement signed with Ukraine for connecting the railway networks of both countries to the transport networks of Black Sea. The project is aimed at increasing the trade in the countries as well as in other East-European states.
The combined transport agreement was signed by Turkey and Ukraine on January 25, 2011. The document stipulates the development of ferryboat connections between Turkish maritime ports with railway links and Ukrainian ports with railway links. Trains will be thus carried by ferryboats, a procedure that will significantly reduce travel time and costs, since the unloading and reloading of vehicles will no longer be necessary.
The agreement has to also be ratified by the Ukrainian Parliament.
