SBB to give up nuclear energy supply

Ranking first at energy consumption in Switzerland, SBB has announced that it would completely give up nuclear energy supply by 2025.
Starting with 2013, 80% of the trains in traffic will be supplied with energy coming from hydraulic plants.
The company owns 6 hydraulic plants that it plans to modernise and develop. In parallel, SBB has committed to reduce power consumption by 20% by 2025 by improving traffic management and using modern rolling stock.
