First intermodal transport solution on Constanţa-Ploieşti route

22/06/2012

On Thursday, June 21, Intermodal Logistics Int’l Company inaugurated the first intermodal transport line on the direct route Constanţa-Ploieşti. The route uses the Allianso terminal in Ploieşti, located in the neighbourhood of  Ploieşti West Park logistics and industrial park, a terminal inaugurated in November 2011. The first journey is scheduled for July 24. There will be two journeys per week with departure from Constanţa on the route Constanţa, Feteşti, Făurei, Buzău, Ploieşti every Tuesday and Thursday. The representatives of the company say that the advantages residing from the use of railways, related to the reduction of costs and environmental protection, but also the high flow of freight to Ploieşti, currently carried out mainly on roads or via Bucharest, were the made grounds of their choice. There are strong companies in Ploieşti operating in the region, two logistics and industrial parks and large logistics operators in their neighbourhood. Starting with November 2011, Allianso railway terminal has also been operating in the region at a capacity of 1,028 TEU which will be increased to 4,904 TEU by 2013.
“We believe in railway transport and we think it is barely exploited”, declared Florin Manolescu, General Manager of Intermodal Logistics Int’l. “There should be as many such initiatives as possible for promoting intermodal transport and potential customers, as well as existing customers should optimise the freight flow, from import to storage, thus being able to ignore a difference of hours between the road and the railway delivery which also has the advantage of cost reduction”.
Intermodal Logistics Int’l is a company with Romanian private capital who aims at becoming an important Supply Chain services supplier both for customers in Romania and in Europe. The company also aims to cover, starting with September, the route Constanţa-Ploieşti-Budapest and to expand services on other routes too, for which it concluded contracts with several private operators.
Other objectives for strengthening Constanţa-Ploieşti route to be inaugurated in July include increasing frequency to three journeys per day and the integration of the customs service in the logistics chain.
