EIB grants EUR 900 Million to the Port of Rotterdam
The European Investment bank supports the development of an infrastructure project in the Port of Rotterdam with a financing of EUR 900 Million.
The project consists in the extension of the infrastructure to meet market demands and the new surface, where the infrastructure will be built, will benefit from all facilities for container traffic and the shipment of chemical products and distribution services.
“The volume of this loan together with its very long duration makes it the cornerstone of our investment financing”, says Port of Rotterdam CFO Paul Smits.
Expanding the port and respecting the environment go hand in hand. The project consists in the construction of a beach, a cycling lane and a railway.
According to the Maasvlakte2 project, the double railway will connect Euromax terminal (in the north-west) and Maasvlakte terminal. Also, according to the Master Plan for development, in the future, the line will benefit from the third parallel section so that all trains in the container terminals would have easy access to loading points. Due to the number of trains, the railway network will need switchyards used as “decoupling site”.
